Mark Constable Service Manager running London Marathon

The amount raised for charity by runners in the London Marathon since it began in 1981, is set to top half a billion pounds when the event celebrates its 30th anniversary on 25th April this year.

Runners in last year’s race raised a massive £47.2 million for charitable causes, confirming the London Marathon as the largest annual one-day fundraising event in the world. With a similar total expected from this year’s 36,000 runners, the total raised over 30 years since the first race in 1981 will reach more than £500 million! “The London Marathon is immensely proud of its record as a charity fund raising event and as we are of our Service Manager Mark Constable, who has decided to run for 'Get Kids Going' this charity supplies children with disabilities the equipment they need to compete in sporting activities.

This particular charity is close to Mark's heart as one of his friends has benefited from 'Get Kids Going' when he was left injured after a rugby game, they helped him purchase an adapted wheel chair to allow him to continue in sport. Mark started running back in 2009 where he entered his first race the 10k at Harewood House this was a cross country race in aid of Cancer Research. "It has always been an ambition of mine to run in the London Marathon and after all at the age of 40 if I don’t do it now I probably never will" said Mark

Currently Mark's training involves running 4 times a week building up his distance and times as the race gets nearer, As a warm up before the big day Mark has entered Kill-a-Marathon which is 16 miles from Derby to Nottingham and only the week before the London Marathon!
